The date was march 3rd,of 1699 when the first American Mardi Gras was celebrated. The tradition still carries on today however, it wasn’t until the mid 1800′s that official parade organizations started to form. First with the Mystic Krewe of Comus in 1856, and then the Krewe of Rex in 1872. Mardi Gras is the last opportunity for over indulgence in food, and drink and generally having just a great time before you have to settle down until next year, when we get to do it all over again. Also know as Fat Tuesday, this Pre-Lenten celebration isis observed in Roman Catholic communities as well as French communities as a time of preparation just before Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of lent.
Mardi Gras celebrations consist of spectacular parades full of Floats, dancing in the streets, with really elaborate costumes, masks, and all kinds of celebratory events such as pageants, masquerade Balls, and all night parties. If you have never been to a Mardi Gras celebration, then you have truly missed a once in a life time week long party.

One can not go wrong adding a Mardi Gras mask for the next party you attend. These masks are so colorful and would make a great accessory for many Halloween costumes.
